Description
This is a milepost located south of Bridge Number 5 on the Grand Union Canal Leicester Line, dating from around 1893. It is made of cast iron and features a rectangular plate with the inscription "GJCCO LEICESTER 40 MILES." The milepost is part of a series and marks the distance on the Leicester Line, which was established when the 'old' Grand Union Canal was converted between 1810 and 1814.
