Description

Milepost located on the Grand Union Canal at Watford Locks, dating from the late 19th century. It is made of cast iron and features the inscription 'G.J.C. Co. Leicester 39 miles'. The Grand Union Canal was authorized by an Act of Parliament in 1810, with the Watford section opening in 1814. The Leicester line of the canal was acquired by the Grand Junction Canal Company in 1893-1894.
