Description

This milepost is located on the towpath between Bridges 16 and 17 of the Grand Union Canal Leicester Line, and it dates from around 1893. Made of cast iron, it features a rectangular plate with the inscription: "GJC CO LEICESTER 35 MILES." The 'old' Grand Union Canal, constructed between 1810 and 1814, was transformed into the Leicester Line of the Grand Junction Canal in 1893-1894. This milepost is part of a series along the canal.
