Description
This milepost, located on the towpath south west of Bridge Number 41 on the Grand Union Canal Leicester Line, dates from around 1893. It is made of cast iron and features a rectangular plate with the inscription: "GJC CO LEICESTER 26 MILES." The milepost marks the distance on the 'old' Grand Union Canal, which was originally constructed between 1810 and 1814, and became part of the Leicester Line of the Grand Junction Canal in 1893-1894.
