Description
Bridge Number 2 over the Grand Union Canal Leicester Line is an accommodation bridge built between 1810 and 1814, with some minor alterations in the 20th century. It was likely designed by Benjamin Bevan. The bridge is constructed of brick and features a single elliptical arch. It has a string course and solid parapets topped with brick and cement copings. There are buttress piers with stone copings, and cast iron rope fenders are located on the arch facing the towpath. An oval cast iron plate inscribed with the number 2 is positioned on the south side above the arch. This bridge is part of a notable series of 'standard design' bridges along the canal.
