Description
This is a mileplate located approximately 56 meters west of bridge number 59 on the Grand Union Canal. It dates from the late 19th century to early 20th century and is made of cast iron. The front of the mileplate is inscribed with "GJC CO LEICESTER 19 MILES," while the back reads "LONDON AND LANCASHIRE ELECTRICAL AND GEN ENGINEERING CO LIMITED LONDON." The Grand Union Canal was engineered by Benjamin Bevan and completed in 1814.
