Description

The West Barn at Mauldens is a 17th-century barn constructed with a timber frame and dark weatherboarding, topped with a steep old red tile roof. It is connected to the house on the left and features a tall, five-bay structure that faces north, with a central opening designed for double doors. The barn has angled jowls on the bay posts and long straight braces supporting the tie-beams. Angled queen-posts hold the purlins, which are without collars in the clasped-purlin roof. Additionally, there is a long edge halved scarf joint in the wallplate, complemented by bridled butts.
