House. Early C17, rear extensions later C20. Timber frame on chamfered stuccoed sill, with red brick and painted brick infill between exposed timber frame. Ground floor stuccoed. Steep old red tile roof half-hipped with gablets. A 2-storeys, 2 cells, internal chimney, lobby-entry plan house facing N with 1½ storeys gabled porch and 2 front windows to each floor. Flush casement windows with lattice leaded glazing. Timber frame has jowled posts and end walls have wide storey-height panels. Front nearly symmetrical with half-height rail and narrower panels on 1st floor. Convex tension braces in frame and convex brace in porch. Chimney of 2 staggered square conjoined shafts. Unusually complete interior with moulded and stopped joists and axial floor beams, ledged plank doors on iron hooks and bands, carpenters assembly numbers, and wide fireplace to E room has 3 small recesses and an oven with iron door. The stair to rear of chimney now rises from E room but may originally have risen from smaller W room. Cast iron Boxmoor grazing rights plaque no. 614. (Roberts(1975)No.34).
