Description

Meadow Cottage is a house dating from the early 17th century. It has a timber frame with roughcast and a red brick ground floor at the front, along with a narrow stair extension at the west end. The cottage features steep old red tile roofs. It is a two-storey building with a three-cell internal-chimney, lobby-entry plan, facing south, and has a small two-storey gabled rear wing located a third from the east end. A large chimney is situated at the ridge a third from the west end, with the entrance and gabled porch aligned to the front and a former winding stair position behind.

The south front has three windows on each floor, featuring flush casement windows with three lights on the ground floor and two lights on the first floor west. There is a battened door located in the gabled tiled porch. Inside, the cottage has axial chamfered beams, with a bar stop in the middle room, and back-to-back open fireplaces connected to the main chimney. The former unheated parlour at the west end has a 19th-century external gable chimney and added fireplaces. The rear wing consists of two bays with an external gable chimney and the current stair. On the east wall of the chamber above the middle room, there is painted plaster with a large panel inscribed 'In the Deity trust/let mee not be ashamed', which does not appear to be from the Authorized Version.
