Description

Manor House is a house that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, featuring a jettied crosswing in the middle and a small part of a late medieval hall extending to the north. A late 17th century wing was added to the south, with an extension on its eastern end constructed around 1954. The northern part of the hall range is a 20th century extension. The timber frame is exposed on the jettied upper part of the crosswing to the east and west, with red brick infill, while the ground floor is plastered. The southern wing has plastered panels between the studs and a ground floor made of painted brick. The house has steep old red tile roofs, hipped on the southern wing, and is irregularly two-storeys tall, facing west. The entrance is in the middle, located under the jetty of the oldest part, which also has a similar jetty at the rear. The casement windows have been renewed. The interior features exposed framework, including one hollow-chamfered jamb and a four-centred head of one of the twin service doors on the northern side of the crosswing, which previously opened onto the screens passage, indicating that this was a service-end crosswing to a lower hall that now only exists in fragmentary form, with a large internal kitchen chimney inserted. The southern wing, also two-storeys, contains one room on each floor, has jowled posts, and features a large chimney at its junction with the northern crosswing. It has two windows looking southward over the now enclosed and built-over green, with one window extension to the east.
