Description
Mauldens is a farmhouse that has been converted into a private house. It dates from the 16th century, with 18th century brick infill and casing at the front of the east crosswing. The building features exposed timber framing with a red brick sill and infill, topped by steep old red tile roofs. It is an irregular L-shaped structure with two stories, facing north, and includes a three-bay hall range, a lean-to at the east gable, and a two-story west crosswing that projects to the front, along with catslide-roofed outshuts on the west side.
There is a gabled tiled porch supported by posts, leading to a battened door in the center of the hall range. The hall range has four flush leaded casement windows and a large internal chimney located in the rear part of the narrower central bay, with a lobby entrance at the front and a small window above. The wall framing features wide panels, and the brickwork on the front of the west wing shows two different periods. The roof has clasped purlins with collars and struts that are exposed in the east gable and at the front of the crosswing, while straight braces support the corners of the boxframe walls.
