Description

Manor Farmhouse is a manor house, now a farmhouse, dating from the 17th century. Part of the original structure was demolished and the remainder converted into a farmhouse around the 1770s, with further renovation and rear extensions added in the 19th century. The west wing is timber framed, with roughcast on the north and east sides, exposed timbers on the west side with brick infill, and red brick ground floor casing on the south and southwest to match the red brick of the south wing. It has steep, old red tile hipped roofs. The house is two and a half storeys high, facing south, with a long two-story west wing joined to its northwest corner and linked only by a single-story lean-to. The south wing has a two-room, end-chimney plan with single-room depth, featuring an older, very large projecting rear wall chimney to the west room and a large rear stair tower adjoining it on the east. The current entrance is through a gabled 19th-century porch in the northwest angle of the stair tower and the south wing. The west wing has a large internal chimney located a third from the north end and a three-cell plan, later adapted to service rooms. The south front has two windows on each floor. The ground floor features three-light casement windows with segmental arched heads, while the first floor has two-light windows. Sash windows are present at the east end, stair tower, and 19th-century rear extension. Near the south end of the west side of the west wing, there is an original five-light moulded oak mullioned window on the ground floor. The rear wall chimney of the south wing has three tall diagonal shafts. The interior of the west room of this wing is reportedly panelled with oak. The staircase is of a dog-leg plan, constructed from oak with square newels, moulded caps, and turned balusters.
