Description

The east range of farm buildings at Graveley Hall Farm, which backs onto the churchyard, includes the remains of a former jettied domestic building at the northern end. The buildings date from the 16th century to the 19th century. The northern shed is from the 19th century, while the former domestic building, now a stable, dates from the 17th century and consists of three bays. There is also a five-bay tithe barn from the 16th century. The structure features a timber frame on a tarred brick sill, with dark weatherboarding. The western wall of each stable is made of painted brick, and the southern gable wall is constructed of red brick. The roofs are steeply pitched, covered with old red tiles, although the barn, which was formerly thatched, is now slated.

The northern stable has a central door and originates from a two-bay, two-storey domestic structure that jetties at the north end facing the hall. This building has jowled posts, convex curved tension braces, paired tension braces flanking a blocked window at the north end, a single purlin with curved wind-braces, and holes for wattle-and-daub infill. The three-bay lower stable to the south now connects with the northern stable. The five-bay barn at the southern end features central double doors facing west. It also has jowled posts, a mid-height rail, convex curved tension braces, curved braces to cambered tie-beams, and one purlin on the collar with inclined straight queen struts. The wall plates exhibit edge-halved scarf joints with bridled butts.
