Description
The East Barn at Town Farm is a 18th-century barn located on the east side of the yard. It features a timber frame set on a high red brick sill and is covered with dark weatherboarding and a steep old red tile roof. The barn has five tall bays and faces west. It includes unjowled posts with straight braces connecting to squared tie-beams, and inclined straight struts supporting the principals. There are two butt-purlins on each slope, staggered in alignment. Long diagonal braces are fixed to the undersides of the rafters in the end bays, and a central post is present in the end walls, with long diagonal braces intersecting the wall studs. The barn has single wide doors on each side leading into the end bays, as well as two high pitching doors, although the central doorways are blocked.
