Description

Tim's Spring Cottage consists of two houses, with No. 12 likely dating from the 16th century and altered in the 17th and 19th centuries, while No. 10 is from the 19th century. The buildings feature a timber frame with painted brick infill, and No. 12 has a painted brick room over a carriageway on the right-hand side, along with a narrow contemporary house (No. 10) on the south side. No. 12 has a steep pitched roof that is now slated, while the extension and No. 10 have a low pitched slate roof that is hipped to the south.

The two-storey group faces west on the street front. The larger northern part, No. 12, has four unequal bays with heavy framing, and the second bay from the north is likely the original open hall. It features wide-spaced studs with a mid-height rail tenoned in-line, a small window in the narrow northern bay, and a half-glazed door at the left end of the hall bay. There is also a canted 19th-century bay window with small panes beside the door and a box dormer at the eaves level above. The right-hand bays have small-paned two-light casements on each floor, and there is a similar window in the room over the carriageway.

No. 10 has one window on each floor and a plank door to the left, featuring small-paned recessed sliding casements with cambered arches. It was formerly the village stores. No. 10 is included for its group value with No. 12.
