Description
Old Post Cottage is a house dating to circa 1810, and known to have been used as a post office by the 1870s. It is constructed of red brick with blue brick headers, with the south gable triangle clad in red tile hanging. The roof is steep, covered with old red tiles, and hipped at the north, with a slate rear wing.
The house is asymmetrical in design, presenting a two-storey, three-window facade to the east. A two-storey rear wing extends to the northwest. The east front features a six-panel door situated between a two-light and a three-light ground floor window. A former wide segmental arched opening, now blocked, is present in the north bay, featuring a canted bay window. Above the arch is a two-light window, and there are three-light windows to the first floor. The windows have flush casements with rectangular leaded glazing and segmental arches to the ground floor. The rear extension has windows with cambered red brick arches.
