Description

Cobwebs, Folly Cottage, and Rose Cottage are three houses that were originally a single house dating back to the 16th century. The open hall house had a floor and chimney added in the 17th century, and the entrance was moved to the upper end of the hall in the later 18th century. In the late 20th century, the building was divided into three separate houses.

The structure features a timber frame on a brick sill, with wide-spaced studs and posts visible on both floors, infilled with white painted brickwork. It has steep old red tile roofs and is one and a half storeys tall with three bays, facing east. There is a long two-storey, four-bay gabled crosswing to the south.

Inside, there is a wide structural cross passage in the narrow bay at the south end of the hall range, which has been narrowed by the insertion of two fireplaces, leaving a narrow space between them. A two-light window has been created in the former door position, with a small two-light window above it. Gabled dormers are present at the eaves over the hall and the north parlour bays.

The hall features a 18th-century leaded three-light window with an iron casement, and a plank door to the right. There is a rectangular projecting bay window with small panes in the parlour, which has an added external north gable chimney for the fireplace. The windows are mostly flush casement with leaded glazing, with one two-light leaded casement on each floor of the gable of the south wing, set off-centre to the north. The south side of the wing has four casement windows on the first floor and two plank doors.

The framing of the east gable includes jowled posts, a cambered tie-beam, and collar with clasped purlins and square framing. The hall range has a clasped purlin roof with large wind braces.
