Description

Smyther's Farmhouse is a late 16th century house that has been adapted into a T-plan layout. The oldest part of the building runs east-west, while a crosswing at the east end is aligned north-south. The structure is timber framed and plastered, featuring three sets of four casement windows on both the ground and first floors. The crosswing has a jettied section at the south gable tie beam. A red brick chimney stack is located on the north wall, flanking the center. The roofs are ridged and gabled, covered with peg tiles. Although the house has undergone significant extensions and renovations, it retains some original features, including moulded timbers in the ground storey ceiling that can be dated to around 1560 to 1580, as well as some ovolo mullions from that period.
