Description

Teycross Farmhouse is a 15th-century house located on Earls Colne Road in Great Tey. It has four rooms and is two storeys high. The building is timber framed and plastered, having undergone significant restoration, and features modern casement windows. The roof is ridged and gabled, covered with peg tiles, and there is a rear wing of one bay that creates a T-plan with a lean-to roof on the south side. The original structural bays are no longer visible. An inserted floor in the middle room, which dates from around 1575 based on its joists and mouldings, indicates that the house frame is older. The rear wing may have originally served as a stair tower related to the added first floor.
