Description
This barn, located 20 meters south-east of Greenwoods Farmhouse, dates from the early 17th century. Originally consisting of five bays, it was extended northwards by two bays around 1800, and a gabled midstrey was added to the west side. The structure is timber-framed and weatherboarded, with a corrugated iron roof that was formerly thatched. It features arch-form windbraced close-studding and a windbraced clasped purlin roof. The braces in the open trusses were replaced by knee braces around 1800. The two-bay extension has primary-braced studwork and knee-braced principal rafters with butt-purlins, and the open trusses are designed without tie-beams. There are sets of four boarded barn doors on both sides.
