Description
Mickfield Hall is a farmhouse that was formerly a manor house. It dates back partly to the 15th century but was mainly rebuilt around 1600, with early 20th-century remodelling. The building is timber-framed and roughcast, featuring a plaintiled roof, with the cross-wing to the right having a hipped design. It has axial chimneys made of red brick and a three-cell plan, with the service cell located within the cross-wing. The structure has two storeys and attics, with 20th-century casement windows and a four-panelled entrance door.
The narrow two-bay cross-wing to the right was likely built as a solar wing in the 15th century; it features arch-braced close-studding and an arch-braced cambered tie-beam at the open truss. This wing was enlarged and re-roofed in the 19th century. The hall range was demolished and rebuilt around 1600, showcasing good close-studding and a clasped-purlin roof. Inside, the floor joists in the parlour are chamfered, while those in the hall are laid flat and plain. The property is surrounded by a complete encircling medieval moat.
