Description

Greenwoods Farmhouse is an early 17th-century farmhouse with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It is a two-storey building constructed with timber framing and plaster. The roof is covered in plain tiles and has original external chimneys at the rear made of red brick. One large parlour chimney features moulded offsets and a moulded oblong shaft containing two flues, while a similar hall chimney has a single flue. The farmhouse has mid-19th century sash windows with large panes, as well as some smaller casement windows. A 19th-century entrance doorway is located at the gable end, featuring a four-panelled door and a panelled architrave. A mid-19th century brick parlour block was added to the original parlour cell, effectively creating a double-pile arrangement. Internally, some good, unmoulded timber framing dating to around 1600 is visible, along with a fragment of a wind-braced clasped-purlin roof, largely rebuilt in the 20th century. Numerous original moulded plank doors remain. The farmhouse is unusually elongated, incorporating an additional service cell towards the right-hand side.
