Description

This is a late 17th-century house, extended in the 18th century, likely during a subdivision. It is timber-framed and now rendered, with a thatched roof. The house comprises three sections, and it is one-and-a-half storeys high. It now has 20th-century casement windows, with horizontal glazing bars on the ground floor. There are two gabled dormers, each containing a single-pane window. Two doorways have 20th-century doors and thatched timber trellis porches. An internal chimney stack has a rendered shaft. A possible original pantiled lean-to remains at the rear on the right side, with later 20th-century additions. Inside, there is substantial full-height studding, much of it seemingly re-used and featuring straight primary braces. A hall bridging beam was halved and reused; it’s paired with 16th-century joists, which have large chamfers and broach stops at the inner ends. A similar reused beam is in the parlour, with plain, flat joists. A newel staircase is present. Reused rafters, some of which show evidence of soot, are also visible.
