Description

Bloomfields Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the early to mid-16th century. It is timber framed and rendered, topped with a thatched roof that has a hipped section over the service end to the right. The building is arranged in a 3-cell, cross-entry layout and stands two storeys tall with a small attic above the hall. The left gable overhangs and features an exposed tie beam, with wallplate ends resting on original brackets.

The farmhouse has mid-20th century casement windows with two and three lights, each light having a single horizontal glazing bar. There is also a mid-20th century hooded dormer with a four-light window. The lobby entry includes a lean-to porch with a four-panel door on one side. Inside, there is a small rebuilt shaft for the internal stack.

The interior showcases much good exposed framing, with evidence of diamond-mullioned windows. The lower end wall of the hall chamber has tension braces, while the parlour cell features fine close studding. The cross-entry doorways are 4-centre arched, and there are traces of similar doorways in the service partition. The hall has very heavy plain joists, while the parlour ceiling displays chamfered joists with run-out stops. The upper ceilings are later additions, with all joists set flat. An oak newel stair is present, and the hall has a coupled-rafter roof, with the remainder of the roof concealed.
