Description

Parkhall Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century, with the section to the right of the stack rebuilt, possibly in the late 17th century. It is timber framed and rendered, with a roof made of concrete pantiles. The building consists of three cells and has two storeys plus an attic. The mid-20th century features include casement windows without glazing bars and an internal stack with a rendered shaft. There is a lean-to kitchen addition from around 1975 on the left gable end and a mid-20th century doorway at the rear.

Inside, the two-bay cell to the left retains a largely intact frame with evidence of diamond-mullioned windows and cranked braces to the central tie beam. The ceiling of the ground floor room has a bridging beam with a wide chamfer and closely-set chamfered joists. There is a probable cross-entry to the left. On the upper floor, there are two 17th-century panelled doors with old ironwork, and sections of reeded pilasters have been reused as door jambs. The roof is intact, featuring one row of wind-braced clasped purlins. The later end of the building has been more heavily modernised, with much of the structure concealed. The ceiling of the main lower room has a pitchpine beam and various reused joists, set on-edge and flat, along with a blocked fireplace that has a wide lintel. The clasped purlin roof has rafters of regular scantling.
