Description

The Old Rectory is a former rectory with an early 17th century core that was remodeled in the early 19th century in the Gothick style. The building is timber-framed and plastered, featuring a deep coved cornice beneath the eaves. The side and rear walls are mostly encased in early 19th century gault brick. The roof is covered with plain tiles, and the ornate bargeboards have a scrolled pendant frieze. An axial chimney made of early 19th century gault brick has three square shafts with moulded caps and bases, one of which has been altered. Each shaft has a sunk panel beneath it.

The building has a three-cell lobby-entrance plan and is two storeys high, partly with attics. It features good early 19th century windows, including three splayed bays on the ground floor with flat roofs and small-pane sashes. Above each sash are three small glazed trefoiled heads with sunk spandrels. On the first storey, there are four-light leaded casements, each light topped with a trefoiled head. The matching entrance porch is flat-roofed, with fluted pilasters and a six-panelled door, the upper panels being glazed. The fanlight has a pair of trefoil-headed lights with enriched spandrels. Inside, the parlour to the right features a 17th century ovolo-moulded beam, while most of the other framing is concealed. The roof has a butt-purl. To the left, there is a rear 18th century timber-framed service wing that has been extensively remodeled in the early 19th century.
