Description
Doves Farmhouse is a former farmhouse with a probable medieval core that underwent significant alterations around 1600, as indicated by a plaster date of 1600 above the initials R.C. over the entrance. The building was restored around 1980. It has two storeys, with a parlour block that includes attics. The layout follows a three-cell cross-passage entrance plan, with the parlour cell added around 1600. The structure is timber-framed and roughcast, featuring plaintiled roofs. The parlour cell has a cross-wing roof with an oversailing gable tie-beam, which is moulded and has well-carved diagonally set drop-finials at either end, originally supported by shallow arch-braces. The windows include three-light mid-20th century casements with leaded lights, while the parlour chamber features a pair of small original 17th-century four-light mullioned windows. In the hall, there is a tall oak mullioned window from around 1980, possibly a restoration of an original open-hall window. A circa 1980 four-centred arched doorway with a boarded door is located at the cross-entry position. The interior has not been examined.
