Description
Millgreen Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid 16th century, with extensions likely added in the 17th and 18th centuries. It originally featured a three-cell cross-passage entry layout and has one storey with attics. The structure is timber-framed and plastered, topped with half plaintiled roofs and axial chimneys made of red brick. The farmhouse includes gabled casement dormers and primarily features three-light mid 20th century casements. The entrance door, which is from the 19th century, has four panels and is set within a gabled porch.
Inside, the hall showcases heavy unchamfered floor joists from the 16th century, and a deep supporting clamp exhibits unusual carving resembling traceried fan-vaulting. An original staircase, featuring triangular blocks, ascends from the cross-passage. The building also has two very steeply-cambered tie-beams: one at the service end partition and the other at the hall's open truss, which includes cranked arch-bracing. The roof is constructed with clasped purlins.
