Description

Greenoak Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the early to mid 16th century, with alterations around 1600. It is timber-framed and roughcast, with a pantiled roof which was originally thatched. A prominent axial chimney is built of red brick. The house originally had a 3-cell cross-passage entrance plan. It is two storeys high with attics. The windows are mostly from the early 19th century, featuring a casement in the hall with transomes and boarded shutters, and small-pane sashes in the parlour cell. A 19th-century four-panelled door sits at the cross-entry, and a hipped, slated porch with a panelled door and a shallow pediment sits above at the lobby-entrance position. At the service end of the building, good 16th-century exposed timber framing remains. A pair of twin doorways with 4-centred arches lead into the former service rooms, which are now combined. Inside, there is arch-braced studwork and heavy, unchamfered floor joists. An open fireplace is located in the hall, and other alterations were probably made around 1600.
