Description
No. 66 Load Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It likely dates from the mid-18th century and was remodeled in the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the mid-20th century. The building is constructed of rendered brick and features a tiled roof with a central stack. It has three storeys, with a brick-coped verge on the left side and a moulded stone cornice at the parapet. A central lead drainpipe is accompanied by a rectangular rainwater head.
The upper floors have two windows, which are tri-partite glazed sashes set within moulded plaster architraves. The ground floor shop front includes two plate glass windows with overlights that contain decorative cast iron ventilators, flanked by engaged Doric columns supporting a moulded cornice. The entrance is slightly recessed and features a moulded wooden architrave with a half-glazed door. Additionally, there is an entrance to a passage on the left-hand corner, which has a wooden architrave and a door made of six flush panels, with the upper two panels featuring decorative cast iron grilles.
