Description

The George Hotel is a house that has been converted into a hotel. It likely dates from the early 17th century and was remodeled in the mid-18th century, with some alterations made in the mid-20th century. The building is probably timber-framed and is clad in stuccoed brick. It stands three storeys high with an attic that is illuminated by two gabled dormers. The right side features a brick coped verge and a wooden cornice with decorative modillions, along with a band at the first floor that displays the hotel name.

The front facade has four windows, all of which are boxed glazing sashes with stone sills. The second floor windows are similar to those on the first floor. On the ground floor, there are two bow windows with a continuous moulded cornice. Each bow window has a curved 12-pane sash at the front, flanked by 8-pane sashes on either side. There is a carriage entrance at the left corner, which has a boarded door with a shaped top that is adorned with wrought iron spikes.

At the rear, there is a wing facing into a courtyard, constructed of painted brick and divided into two blocks of two storeys. The block nearest the front has four windows, while the other block has three. The side of this wing that faces into the courtyard of properties 64 and 65 features two timber cross-windows. The timber framing is visible in the carriage entrance, showcasing square panels.
