Description
Dodington Lodge Hotel is a house that has been converted into a hotel, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick and features slate roofs. The building stands three storeys tall, with one-storey wings on either side. The central block has a rendered chamfered plinth, cill bands on the second floor, and a fascia. There are external brick stacks at each end. The facade is arranged in a 1:1:1 bay pattern, with glazing bar sash windows that have painted stone cills and gauged-brick heads.
On the ground floor, there are two flat-roofed square bays, each featuring a fascia and a moulded wooden cornice, along with tripartite sashes that also have painted stone cills and gauged-brick heads. The central section of the building has a two-storey break topped with a moulded cornice and a triangular pediment. The main entrance features an early 19th-century door with six flush panels and reeded beading, a rectangular overlight, and a moulded wooden architrave. It is framed by a wooden Greek Doric porch with fluted columns, unfluted pilasters, an entablature, and a cornice with mutules. Access to the door is via four slate steps flanked by low walls.
The wings on either side of the central block are set back, with the left wing displaying a dentil brick eaves cornice and two small two-light casements, while the right wing has two larger three-light casements. The interior has been altered in the late 20th century, featuring a modified staircase with a pulvinated string, turned balusters, and a moulded handrail.
