Description
WHITCHURCH URBAN C.P. DODINGTON (south-west SJ 5441 side) 7/67 Dodington Lodge Hotel 1.5.51 (Formerly listed as Dodington Guest House) - II
House, now hotel. Early C19. Red brick with slate roofs. 3 storeys, with one-storey wings. Centre block with rendered chamfered plinth, second-floor cill bands, and fascia. External brick end stacks. 1:1:1 bays; glazing bar sashes with painted stone cills and gauged-brick heads. Pair of ground-floor flat-roofed square bays, each with fascia and moulded wooden cornice, and tripartite sashes with painted stone cills and gauged- brick heads. Central 2-storey break with moulded cornice to triangular pediment. Central early C19 door with 6 flush panels and reeded beading, rectangular overlight, moulded wooden architrave and wooden Greek Doric porch with fluted columns, unfluted pilasters, entablature and cornice with mutules. 4 slate steps up to door with low flanking walls. Flanking set-back wings, that to left with dentil brick eaves cornice and 2 small 2-light casements, and that to right with 2 large 3-light casements. Interior altered in late C20. Altered staircase with pulvinated string, turned balusters and moulded handrail.
