Description
Sarre Court Hotel is a house that has been converted into a hotel. It dates from the early 18th century and around 1800. The building is constructed of brown brick, which is rendered on the front elevation, and features a slate roof. There is a rear wing made of red brick with a plain tiled roof. The original 18th-century structure is fronted by a much larger 19th-century block.
The entrance front has three storeys and a basement, with single-storey flanking wings. The ground floor has a channelled finish with a plat band. There is a moulded cornice at the parapet, which has a mansard roof and chimney stacks at both ends. The second floor has five six-pane glazing bar sash windows, while the first floor has five full-size glazing bar sash windows. The ground floor features four sash windows, with three on the left and two on the right in the wings. The central entrance door consists of six raised and fielded panels, topped by a semi-circular fanlight and surrounded by a panelled surround with an open pediment supported by columns with palmate capitals. There is a flight of four steps leading up to the door, and a basement opening is located at the bottom right.
The rear elevation has two storeys and an attic with a hipped roof and one flat dormer, but this is obscured by later additions. Inside, there is some timbering in the rear wing, along with marble fireplaces, a frieze of urns and acanthus in the reception rooms, and elliptically arched screens to the stairs, which are remnants of the early 19th-century interiors.
