Description
East Close Hotel is a house that has been converted into a hotel, originally built in the mid-18th century and altered and extended in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features painted brickwork and a slate roof with lead ridges. The original structure is two stories high with five bays across the front and four bays at one end added in the 19th century, which includes an attic.
The front facade has a slightly projecting central bay, showcasing half-glazed double doors beneath a radiating semicircular fanlight, all set in a panelled reveal. This doorcase is adorned with Doric pilasters and a full entablature supporting an open pediment. Above the doors is a Venetian window set under a rubbed arch. On either side of the central bay, there are 12-pane sash windows under rubbed arches, with the larger ones located on the ground floor. A round window is positioned near the left-hand end of the building. The structure is topped with a moulded cornice and a plain parapet.
At the rear, the roof is hipped, with chimney stacks located behind the ridge on either side of the center. To the left, there is a later block where the first bay is set back, featuring a gabled porch in front and segmental-headed sashes.
