Description
The former barn at G.G. Baxter's factory is a Grade II listed building dating from the 16th and 18th centuries. It features a timber frame set on a brick base and is weather boarded, topped with a corrugated asbestos roof. The structure has a half-hipped roof that steps down to a lower half-hipped range on the left, with a hipped mid-stray. There is a boarded door and a shuttered wooden casement on the left, along with cart doors on the right, and the remains of a 19th-century oast beyond.
Inside, the barn consists of eight bays with aisles and terminal outshots. The westernmost bays in the lower range are from the 16th century, featuring passing shores to the arcade posts, queen struts, and staggered purlins. The other six bays, while constructed in a similar style, appear to date from the 18th century.
