Description

This building is a barn dating from the 17th century, located immediately east of Grove Manor Farmhouse in Woodnesborough. It features a weatherboarded timber frame set on a tarred English bond brick plinth. The roof is half-hipped and covered with corrugated steel and asbestos sheets, with the southwest end finished in asbestos tiles. There are plain tile hipped canopies.

The barn has a large eight-bay design with threshing floors located in bays three and six, and a small 20th-century outshut at the northeast end. The steeply pitched roof extends over the low weatherboarded aisle walls. On the northwest side, there are two cart entrances with boarded double doors and hipped plain tile canopies supported by timber posts on arched braces.

Inside, the aisle walls are close-studded, and the end walls feature tension braces. The barn has large slightly jowelled arcade posts with arched braces connecting to the ties and arcade plates. The jowelled aisle posts support aisle ties, which have curved shaws leading to the arcade posts. The roof is constructed with common rafters and lacks a ridgepiece, featuring collars and clasped purlins. The rafters, purlins, and collars over the two southwestern bays have been replaced, while the remainder of the roof is obscured by large 20th-century grain silos.
