Description
The Old Vicarage is a house dating from the mid-18th century, extended in the mid-19th century. Constructed of red brick with a plain tiled roof, the house features a cornice and parapet to a half-hipped mansard roof, which incorporates three flat-roofed dormers and chimney stacks to the left and right. The windows are predominantly 3-light sash windows with glazing bars, featuring gauged and keyed heads on the first floor, with 2 windows each on the ground floor and basement. The central front door consists of 7 raised and fielded panels, topped with a traceried semi-circular fanlight and an open pediment supported by pilasters incorporating a block entablature. Six moulded steps lead to the front door, accompanied by 19th-century iron railings. A hip-roofed extension was added to the left side in the mid-19th century. The house was described by Hasted as a ‘new handsome building.’
