Description

This is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with extensions added in the 18th century and the mid-20th century. The house is built of red brick with banded flint and has a plain tiled roof. It has six bays, with the bays at the left end projecting at an obtuse angle to the main part of the house. The building stands on a plinth and has a plat band. Stacks are visible on the right side and at the rear. The windows are irregularly spaced, with ten segmental-headed wooden casements on both floors. A central gabled and glazed porch shelters half-glazed double doors with sidelights. The oldest architectural details are found in the right-end bay, featuring flint bands and some diaper work. The brickwork is in English Bond with galleting, and includes pilaster strips on the corbelled plat band and a corbelled cornice to the shaped gable. Wall ties are marked with the letters “R C” or “R S.”
