Description
The Parkhill Hotel is a house that has been converted into a hotel, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of brick, with the west, south, and east sides rendered. The roofs are slate on the west and south sides, while the other areas feature red or black-glazed pantiles. The building has a double-pile plan with a connecting range across the south side and stands two storeys tall.
The entrance is located on the west side and the façade consists of four bays, with the third bay elaborated into a full-height entrance bow. This bow is supported by a pair of fluted Greek Doric columns beneath a plain architrave, creating a porch for the six-panelled door, which has an overlight and panelled reveals. There are also two 8/8 sash windows on either side of the entrance, with exposed boxes. The first floor of the west and south returns features 20th-century tile-hanging and has four 8/8 sash windows, including one above the entrance bow. The roof is gabled and hipped to the south, with a stack located in the valley between the two piles.
The south front includes two late 19th-century canted ground-floor bays and one French window above the western bay. This section has a hipped roof with a central ridge stack. Inside, there is a stick baluster staircase with a ramped and wreathed handrail.
