Description

A pair of cottages, dating from the 17th century, rebuilt in 1841 on their current site. They are timber-framed, with painted brick infill, and have a plain tiled roof featuring bands of fishscale tiles. The roof has moulded finials at the gable ends. There are two external brick chimneys at the rear, one with four diagonal stacks and an oversailing cap course and a cogged cap course. The cottages are arranged around three framed bays, with gable-ended entrances, and single-bay wings to the rear end bays, presenting as single storey and attic with dormers.

The timber framing is irregular, primarily consisting of four panels from the sill to the wall-plate. The top row of panels has decorative alternate cross and diaper patterns. The gable end has collar-and-tie-beam trusses with V-struts in the apex. The right end bay is jettied to the front elevation, supported on shaped brackets.

The front elevation has three oriel windows on carved brackets, each with two splayed mullions and a transom, as well as tiled weathering and moulded architraves. A gabled dormer with a two-light casement is above the left and central bays, while the right, jettied end has a three-light casement, with the restoration date "1841" in the apex. Each gable end has a gabled timber-framed and balustraded porch, alongside a ledged and battened door with a moulded architrave and an attic light. The interior was not inspected.

The cottages originally stood in Pewterer's Alley, Wribbenhall, Bewdley and were relocated to their present site in 1841.
