Description
Brandons is a cottage that has been converted into a store. It dates back to the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century. The building features a timber-framed structure with painted brick infill and replacement walling, topped with a plain tiled roof that has boxed eaves and a brick ridge stack. It consists of three framed bays and stands two storeys high.
The framing includes two sets of two square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with long straight braces located in the lower corners of the east gable end and the left bay of the front elevation. The first floor slightly jetties out and has plain bressummers. The gable ends are supported by collar-and-tie-beam trusses that feature six queen struts and a V-strut in the apex.
On the front elevation, the ground floor has windows and doorways with plank weatherings. There is one two-light casement window and a blocked window of similar size that is now boarded up, along with two first floor two-light casements and two ledged and battened doors—one located at the far left and the other to the right of centre. Attic lights are present in the gable ends.
The rear elevation has a lean-to extension that runs the full length of the building. The interior has not been inspected.
