Description
Grafton House is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick and rendered infill, a sandstone rubble plinth, a plain tiled roof, and a large external brick stack at the rear. The house consists of three framed bays and is one storey high with an attic that includes dormers.
The framing is irregular, primarily consisting of four panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with a long straight brace in the left lower corner at the front. The roof structure includes collar-and-tie-beam trusses with queen struts and a V-strut in the apex at the gable ends.
On the front elevation, the ground floor has a 16-pane sash window in the left bay, paired glazing bar sashes in the central bay, and a nine-pane sash in the right bay. There are three gabled dormers, each with two-light casements. The main entrance is located in the right gable end and features a 20th-century door. There are also attic lights in the right gable end.
The interior has not been inspected, and there are 20th-century additions at the rear.
