Description

Church Terrace is a house that has been converted into two dwellings, a tea room, and a gallery. It has origins dating back to the 15th century and has undergone alterations in the 17th century, mid-19th century, and mid-20th century. The building features part dressed sandstone, part timber framing with rendered infill, and part brick, with the front faced in stucco. It has paired star-shaped stacks on the main ridge and an external chimney at the left gable end with a rebuilt stack. The structure likely consists of four framed bays, with a chimney inserted in what was once a through-passage. It is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers.

The visible framing can be seen in the left gable end, which has a double collar-and-tie-beam truss with queen struts. The front elevation has scattered fenestration. On the ground floor, the left end bay features a 2-light casement and a rectangular light between which is a half-glazed door, both slightly recessed. The central bays have a 16-pane sash window and a 19th-century doorcase with a flat canopy, entablature, and pilastered surround, along with a half-glazed door. The right end bay has a late 19th-century shop front with two canted bay windows flanking a part-glazed door, and the moulded cornice above the windows continues to form a flat moulded canopy over the door. There are also three gabled dormers with 2-light casements. The interior has been much altered, but some framing is still visible. The rear of the left end bay features a chamfered mullioned window set in the sandstone wall.
