Description
Criftins is a pair of cottages dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the late 19th century. The cottages are timber framed with partly-painted brick nogging, and they have partly-painted brick additions and a partial refacing to the north. The roof is thatched but covered with corrugated iron. The structure consists of two framed bays with an addition to the west and is one storey high with an attic.
On the south side, there is a 19th-century gabled eaves dormer featuring a two-light casement window, and the stacks are truncated below the ridge. The framing includes square panels, with two extending from the sole-plate to the wall-plate, and short straight corner braces. The south front has a window opening to the left, with door openings off-centre to the left and right, while the frame is missing in the centre. The right-hand gable end reveals an exposed collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts.
Inside, the cottages feature purlins and windbraces, a timber-framed square-panelled partition wall, chamfered beams with plain stops, plain joists, two newel staircases, and two integral brick stacks with an open fireplace.
