Description

Mildenham Mill House is a miller's house that has been converted into a residential home. It dates from around 1630, with significant alterations and extensions mainly occurring in the early 19th century and mid-20th century. The building features part timber framing with painted brick infill and replacement walling, as well as brickwork. A mid-20th century external chimney made of sandstone rubble with a brick stack is located at the south gable end, along with another brick stack at the north gable end of the early 19th century section.

The original 17th-century structure includes a single framed bay, while the south gable end has a taller, two-bay early 19th-century extension. Both sections are two stories high. The older part displays a three-course band between the storeys at the north gable end, while the later extension features a dentilled eaves cornice. The framing is exposed at the first floor level of the main west elevation, showing irregular, mainly three small square panels from the girding beam to the wall-plate, with a long, straight brace in the lower left corner.

On the main west elevation, the 17th-century part has a three-light, 20th-century casement window on the ground floor, paired early 19th-century casements, and a 20th-century rectangular light at the first floor level. The 19th-century section includes two 20th-century multi-paned bow windows and two first-floor 16-pane sash windows with cambered heads. The main entrance is now located in a 20th-century single-storey extension at the south gable end, and there are also 19th and 20th-century single-storey extensions at the rear. The building is included for its group value.
