Description
The Mill House is a miller’s house, now a private residence, dating from circa 1785, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. The building is constructed of painted brick, with a low-pitched hipped slate roof and external brick stacks at each end, featuring tiled offsets. It is two storeys and has an attic with dormers. A dentilled eaves cornice runs along the top of the front elevation. The front of the house displays Gothic detailing and features ogee-headed glazing bar sash windows with ogee-arched architraves adorned with moulded finials. The ground floor windows have side lights reminiscent of Venetian windows. Three gabled dormers are present, with slate cheeks and 20th-century ogee-arched bargeboards, containing 2-light casements. The central round-arched entrance is framed by a moulded ogee-arched architrave and a finial. It has a six-panelled door, raised and fielded panelled side reveals, and a traceried, segmental fanlight above. The interior has not been inspected. A two-storey wing extends to the rear of the left side of the building. Salwarpe Mill stood originally to the front right of the house and was demolished in 1942.
