Description
Salwarpe House, originally known as The Old Rectory, is a rectory that has been converted into a house. It dates from the mid- to late 18th century and was altered and extended in the early 19th century. The building features stuccoed brick on a sandstone base, with plain tiled hipped roofs and a brick stack at the right end and ridge. It is two storeys high with an attic that includes dormers. The sides and rear have a dentilled eaves cornice.
The front elevation is L-shaped and consists of five bays, with the central entrance bay being wider. All windows are glazing bar sashes with cambered heads and moulded keyblocks. There are three gabled dormers with square casements. The entrance is set within a large round-arched recess and features a door with six raised and fielded panels, a moulded architrave, sidelights, and a barred segmental fanlight. The interior has not been inspected.
The rear left side of the house faces the church and presents a symmetrical elevation of two, two, and two bays. The central two-bay section is three storeys high with a parapet and a band between the upper two storeys. All the windows on this elevation have blind boxes. A three-bay wing, which is slightly later in date, adjoins to the left.
