Description

Hawford House is a house that dates back to the 17th century or earlier, with additions and alterations made in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. The building features a combination of timber framing with rendered and painted brick infill, as well as sections of painted brick with some planted timbers. It has plain tiled roofs and a diagonal brick stack on the front pitch, with additional stacks at the left and right gable ends of the additions.

The main part of the house consists of three framed bays and is a single storey with an attic. The additions at each end are single bay and two storeys high. The framing of the main part includes three square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight braces in the upper corners.

On the front elevation, the main part features a ground floor 2-light casement window and a bay window with a lean-to roof, along with a 4-light casement window with side lights. There are also two gabled dormers, each with 2-light casements, and a central lean-to porch that has a 2-light casement and a ledged and battened door. The left addition includes a ground floor 2-light casement and two first floor 2-light casements, along with an ogee-headed archway. The right addition features cross-casement windows on both the ground and first floors.
