Description

House. Built in the early 19th century, with alterations and additions made in the late 19th century and the mid-20th century. Constructed primarily of brick, the house features a hipped slate roof hidden behind a parapet, with a large brick stack at the rear. It has three storeys and a cellar, and is five bays wide. All windows have stone sills and gauged flat heads. The ground and first floor windows are glazing bar sashes, while those on the second floor are nine-pane sashes. The windows in the central bay have round-arched heads. A late 19th-century flat-roofed porch with panelled double doors, flanked by rectangular lights, provides the central entrance. The sides of the porch have narrow, round-headed blind windows.

The rear elevation has an ashlar tetrastyle Doric portico with a dentilled cornice, and a wrought iron balcony above. The entrance door is six-panelled, with a round-arched moulded architrave, and a blocked traceried fanlight. The fenestration at ground floor level has been altered. On the left side is a canted bay with a moulded cornice and parapet, featuring three plain sashes. On the right side are two plain sashes, and the central first floor window has been replaced with a large cross casement and moulded architrave.

Inside, the main rooms have ceiling mouldings. The entrance hall contains an open well staircase with moulded balusters and handrail. A two-storey, two-bay addition with a pyramidal roof is located to the front right, with further late 19th-century and mid-20th-century extensions adjoining to the right and rear. This property has group value, reflecting its contribution to the wider character of the area.
