Description

House. The house likely dates back to 1636, as indicated by an inscription on timber in the entrance porch, although it was largely rebuilt and extended in the 1840s and again around 1900. The construction is a mix of timber frame, cement rendering, yellow stock brick, and red brick. The roof is slate. Originally, the house probably comprised three large rooms, and it was extended to the left during the rebuilding.

The building is two storeys and has an attic. A full-height gabled entrance porch is located to the right of the centre, with a 4-panelled door, a semi-circular fanlight, and a doorcase with moulded arch and tapering pilasters. Above the door is a 16-pane sash window set within a flush frame, with exposed plates. A 17th-century bay to the right is cement rendered and features 20-pane flush frame sashes, larger on the ground floor, and a dormer window with a raking head. To the left, a section was built forward in the 19th century, aligning with the porch, and sharing a continuous roof. The ground floor here is exposed brick with a plat band above a rendered first floor. A recessed 20-pane sash window with a cambered head is on the ground floor, while the first floor has flush frame 16 and 20-pane sashes and a dormer with a raking head. The right gable end has exposed plates and purlins.

The left gable end was rebuilt around 1900 in red brick, featuring a large external stack with tumbled brick offsets to paired diagonal shafts and a 2-light casement in a rendered attic with moulded bargeboards. The rear elevation is cement rendered in the original bay, while the right side is largely red brick dating back to around 1900, with several casement windows. The centre and left side of the rear elevation feature external stacks with paired diagonal shafts. A gablet with moulded bargeboards is located to the left of the centre. To the right of the centre is a recessed entrance with a half-glazed door and fanlight, framed by a chamfered Tudor arch. To the right is a full-height gabled bay window.

Attached to the front left and projecting forward is a lower two-storey kitchen wing of the 19th century built with stock brick. The inner elevation has a ground floor tripartite sash window and two first-floor 2-light small-pane casements. A gable end has a rendered external stack with a large base and offsets to paired diagonal shafts. Attached to the left is a later 19th-century outbuilding, featuring a plank door, a 9-pane recessed casement, pilaster strips at the ends, and dentilled brick eaves.

The interior includes cross-axial stop-chamfered binding beams and first-floor axial and cross-axial binding beams, along with jowled posts.
